HERE

As requested, this is a re-post from almost a decade ago featured in exclusive at 0dayroxJ.D. SOUTHER album “You’re Only Lonely” from the stupendous “AOR CITY 1000 series” by Sony Music Japan, the label’s campaign featuring a low-priced reissue on classic AOR / AC albums from their back catalog (many of them out of print or hard to find).
A renowned songwriter for other artists, J.D. Souther co-wrote and played on The Eagles’ most famous album, often considered the band’s ‘hidden member’. So it isn’t surprising to see here on “You’re Only Lonely” the entire Eagles collaborating, alongside top session cats such as guitarists Danny Kortchmar & Waddy Wachtel, Jai Winding on organ, David Sanborn on tenor sax, and more.

This is J.D. Souther’s third solo album, and his most successful. Released as single, the title song charted high on Billboard, reaching number 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and still gets airplay at classic rock radio. Glenn Frey & Don Felder appear on guitar, while Don Henley and Jackson Browne on vocals. That’s what I call a backing band…

“You’re Only Lonely”, the album, is not strictly AOR, but more FM soft rock, with blues, pop and Americana touches here and there. The ballad ‘The Last In Love’ sounds a lot like the Eagles, there’s a boogie rock n’ roll on ”Til The Bars Burn Down’, and barroom blues on ”Fifteen Bucks’.
While not our favorite album from the AOR CITY 1000 series, this is a cool request and one to add to the collection.
