In our mission to bring to you some of the most interesting releases – sometimes, from the underground – it’s a pleasure to present here “Outside Time“, the debut CD from OLD FUTURE CRASH, an awesome project revitalizing the classic sounds from Electric Light Orchestra, Supertramp, etc, and that wonderful Pomp Rock we all love.

Formed in 2006, Old Future Crash are a hugely talented trio comprising ELO superfan Mauri Martinez, Pedro Lopez and lyricist Nancy Betancourt, all musicians from Spain. The threesome, who released a three track 7″ vinyl EP in 2008, have now finally released their debut CD album “Outside Time”.
Heavily influenced by the music of Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra from the early ’80s (“Time”, “Secret Messages” and “Balance Of Power” albums), this is a pure delight.

OLD FUTURE CRASH - Outside Time (2017) inside

Old Future Crash are part of the Spanish official ELO fan club, and in the liner notes the album is dedicated to ‘the Electric Light Orchestra and its leader, Jeff Lynne”.
Ok, this is a tribute record? – No.
All songs are originals? – Yes.
This is rip-off of ELO’s and alike style & sound? Yes and No.
The intention here is not to copy-cat these bands style / sound, I think the idea is to recreate a long lost era… but darn, these guys sound so awesomely good, even replicating the drum sound from albums such the classic ‘Discovery’.

You can’t resist to the pompy melodies of ‘Line Of Time’ (love those keyboards!), the dreamy atmosphere of ‘I’ll Never Stop’ and that lovely, classy mid-pace from ‘Sorry’.
The pulsating ‘Rising’ is pure delight, I love the mellotron and synth strings on the pomp ‘Electric Night’, and ‘I’m A Robot’ is true fun.

OLD FUTURE CRASH - Outside Time (2017) back

I’m in love with Old Future Crash… these guys, helped by a bunch of session musicians have created a lovely piece of a ‘time machine’ music.
“Outside Time” is a must for all Electric Light Orchestra / Jeff Lynne fans, but let me tell you, if you don’t like ELO at all, you better check this record anyway, as you will find many Pomp Rock palatable moments, even at places influenced by the current synthwave scene (track ‘Lost In A Dream’).
