CORNERSTONE – Reflections (2016)
Some years ago we featured a pretty good album from a very promising band; Austria’s CORNERSTONE® second effort. Now 2016, with a refreshed line-up they are back with a brand new CD titled “Reflections“, produced by talented Harem Scarem frontman Harry Hess.
Cornerstone® style towards to the light end of the melodic rock spectre, with a slick sound featuring some traces of AOR and commercial Rock&Pop.
They have the classic ’80s sound, epitomised by Steve Wachelhofer’s crunchy Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone kind of guitar playing absolutely nailed on the opener ‘Nothing To Lose’ – and it’s nice to hear the era revitalised with such glamour.
‘Last Night’ is a superb power-pop/rock anthem that includes a huge harmony, smooth vocal lines by Alina Peter and a some really sharp riffs as the cherry on top.
The more edgy ‘Heart On Fire’ is yet another powerful and very ’80s AOR-ish tune while in ‘Whatever’ arrives the first ballad. This piano-driven tune includes a moodier feeling and a melancholic vibe but it’s one of my favorites from “Reflections”.
‘Northern Lights’ and ‘Brother’ add more groove givin’ the extra flavor to the album result.
Solid songwriting, playing and the slick production of Harry Hess wraps Cornerstone® new effort “Reflections”.
Since the very first musical bit you’re immediately transported back to the sound of bands like Quarterflash typified in the ’80s all that was good about the genre; the kind of hooky melodic rock / rock&pop / light AOR that ruled FM radio during the golden days.
