NITERAIN – Crossfire (2013)
*
As part of the 0dayRox Advanced Releases we already presented here last year Norwegians NITERAIN and their first single, now the guys will are releasing today November 15th the full length debut CD “Crossfire”.
Hailing from Oslo, NiteRain is a hard rock / glam infused four piece rooted in the ’80s. After touring all over Europe with the likes of L.A Guns and The 69 Eyes, NiteRain is finally ready to unleash their debut album named “Crossfire”, recorded in collaboration with guitar guru and TNT frontman Ronni Le Tekrø.
Get ready for 11 tracks of high velocity kickass rock’n’roll akin the Sunset Strip golden days, with a sound & style strongly influenced by Ratt, Britny Fox, Kix, Jetboy, and of course, a touch of TNT.
The CD hit the ground running with “Bad Girl”, an infectious slab of L.A. sleaze that immediately brings to mind big hair, leather pants and the heady nites of eighties Glam.
“Dirty” that follows (and the first single presented on this blog) recalls Ratt / Stephen Pearcy Out Of The Cellar era, then “Make My Day” turn things more heavy, flooded by gang backing vocals and a ‘street attitude’, making it as an enjoyable a start to an album of this genre as we’ve heard this year.
The interesting thing though is that NiteRain plays it straight hard rockin’; there no place for ballads or cheesy moments here.
Yet, there’s place for melody for sure, as heard on “Somebody Get Me a Doctor” and the smokin’ midtempo “Judgement Day”, but the rest of the songs a pure bullets of rock ‘n roll: the angry “My World”, the riot which is “Hey Baby” (with some Skid Row in it), the Ratt-like She Said Go!!! ans the short “Playin’ the Game” are effective and to the point: rock hard.
On “Crossfire” NiteRain successfully captures the L.A. sound and style from the end of the eighties. Unlike a lot of new acts that mix the genre with some modern stylings, NiteRain set themselves up as the real deal, the natural successors to the bands from the Sunset Strip.
The question is of course do they have the ammunition? Well, they have the riffs, the right singer, the clichés and they have the required sleazy ‘sound’. On top of that they have the look and the attitude… there is a but though, in that despite the consistency they don’t have that one huge anthem to really capture your sleaze-filled heart. However, “Crossfire” is really solid and truly effective as a whole, with a great production and mix.
If you love Glam infused Rock and Roll with a hard melodic edge and a look over the shoulder at the eighties this is a more than competent debut from a band that I for one will be keeping a close eye on.
