SAMMY HAGAR and The Wabos – Live Hallelujah [CD version full]
With the recent batch of SAMMY HAGAR albums featured here, another one of you asked for SAMMY HAGAR and The Wabos‘ “Live Hallelujah” in its true CD release. The audio versions floating around are taken from the video-DVD.
This is the real one, pretty hard to find.
For his first live album in about 25 years, Sammy Hagar originally wanted to capture a full concert, but since that ran nearly three hours, he scrapped that and culled highlights from his co-headlining tour with David Lee Roth in 2002, when Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony was part of the band.
Hagar worked out a neat trick where he sequenced the album like a studio album, not a concert, but retained the raw, live, feel of a concert.
And, make no mistake, this is a raw, loud recording — over-amplified guitars, vocals sung from the gut, everything turned to 11.
It has a visceral punch, particularly since “the Red Rocker” admirably decided to retain mistakes.
All Hagar discography is revisited, from “There’s Only One Way to Rock” to “Mas Tequila”, there’s of course “Heavy Metal” (co-written with Jim Peterik), “Rock Candy” from his Montrose years, and four Van Halen songs featuring Michael Anthony on bass, and Gary Cherone in a duet.
Speaking of the latter, these sound and feel better than the Van Halen main live album, which always was a bit cold to me.
This CD version includes the studio track “Hallelujah”, taken from Sammy Hagar and The Waboritas previous studio album which had distribution problems.
“Live Hallelujah” is a true live album, rocking as Hell, sounding as if you’re at the front row of a concert.
That it’s nothing but pile-driving, hard-driving rock & roll, man!
Highly Recommended
