VAN HALEN – OU812 [Japan HDCD Forever Young series remastered] *HQ*

Few rock music listeners know – even some rabid VAN HALEN fans – that the Sammy Hagar-era albums have been remastered as part of the WB Records ‘Forever Young‘ series. These are the only remastered versions available from these albums, and one of you asked to be featured here as all are out of print and hard to find.
Let’s go with “OU812 – Forever Young series remastered“.
All Van Halen albums from the Sammy Hagar-era have that bombastic, glossy ’80s production, but especially on the first two, the bass presence is scarce, typical from the era. On this Japanese remaster you get a higher overall (as it is the norm on most remasters) level, but fortunately not saturated / brick-walled.
The waveforms are ever-so-slightly louder than the original US and Europe CDs, but extremely tasteful. The dynamics of the original recording also appear completely intact.

VAN HALEN – The Super Dome Tokyo ’89 (2022)

The Media Champ bootleg label has just released VAN HALEN‘s “The Super Dome Tokyo ’89“, the concert recorded live at Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan, February 1st, 1989, during the ‘OU 812 Tour 1988-1989’.
This bootleg has surfaced before under different titles, however this new release has been better mixed / mastered and polished. It is a very good multi-track soundboard recording with all instruments / vocals well defined.
At this point in time (1988/89) the Van Halen / Hagar version of the band was already very well oiled and they sound great as a unit. In fact some of the songs here are better version than the ones later appeared into VH first official live album…

VAN HALEN – 1984 [Japan remastered Forever Young series HDCD] *HQ*

While VAN HALEN‘s first six albums have been recently (2015) remastered and available in the US & Europe, this Japanese remaster of “1984” made on HDCD as part of the Warner Brothers Japan ‘Forever Young’ remastered series is quite different. Indeed, this is perhaps the best ‘1984’ remastered version ever.
I mean, it’s a more ‘natural’ remaster respecting the dynamics from the original recording, with a slightly level-up gain but warm as a brand new vinyl LP. The bass feels more in tune with the kick drum, and perhaps David Lee Roth’s vocals are more prominent, on par with the blazing rhythm guitars.
I don’t think this “1984 [Japan edition remastered – Forever Young series]” is for completists only… while the USA 30th Anniversary Edition Remastered 2015 is excellent for the iPod and regular players, if you’re lucky to own a hi-end system this Japanese version done with HDCD technology is a must.

DAVID LEE ROTH – Your Filthy Little Mouth [Friday Music digitally remastered]

This Friday Music remastered reissue of DAVID LEE ROTH‘s “Your Filthy Little Mouth” is perfect to re-discover this highly underrated album, requested by many here.
Dave’s 4th solo album definitely surprised to all. It certainly wasn’t aimed at receiving mainstream attention because it was immensely different from the grunge emerging from Seattle around the time of its release (1994).
However, it also wasn’t what people normally expected from Dave, and it definitely wasn’t what most people associate him with. Some of his fans expected him to remain loyal to his classic hard rock sound of Van Halen’s glory days, but Dave instead ventured himself into many diverse genres in “Your Filthy Little Mouth”.

DAVID LEE ROTH – Sonrisa Salvaje [Friday Music remastered reissue]

Did you know there’s a Spanish version of DAVID LEE ROTH’s Eat ’Em And Smile album done back in in 1986? Or you didn’t know it existed at all? Don’t worry. Most people don’t know about it. But the album originally intended for Spaniard-speaking listeners titled “Sonrisa Salvaje” is available again on CD, and this time, it’s the remastered version done by Friday Music reissued on CD for the first time.
The Spanish-language album featured all the backing tracks used for Eat ’Em and Smile — laid down by Dave’s band at the time, which included Billy Sheehan on bass and Steve Vai on guitar — but with Spanish translations of English lyrics.
And very ‘bad’, hilarious translations by the way. In fact, if you know some Spanish language, this is terrible. But a lot of fun! And if you do not understand a word of Spanish, it’s darn fun too.

DAVID LEE ROTH – A Little Ain’t Enough (Friday Music Remastered) HQ

Many of you asked for the very hard to find and only remastered version of “A Little Ain’t Enough“, the third full-length studio album by DAVID LEE ROTH released by Friday Music Records.
This underrated, very good album it’s plenty of catchy songs, fun lyrics, party attitude, wild guitar solos and big production.
David Lee Roth’s third solo album “A Little Ain’t Enough” marks something of a turning point in Diamond Dave’s career, and in some ways, represents the end of an era: ’80s glammy hard rock / hair metal.
After the previous album world tour, Steve Vai left Dave’s band (bassist Billy Sheehan had left prior to the tour to form Mr. Big) and Roth had to rebuild the whole thing.
Not an easy task, but he got a stellar fresh line-up with Gregg Bissonette (drums), Matt Bissonette (bass), Brett Tuggle (keyboards) and a young – only 21 years-old – virtuoso guitarist named Jason Becker…

SAMMY HAGAR – Three Lock Box [Japan SHM-CD remastered Limited Release] HQ

Requested by many, here’s the really good SAMMY HAGAR album “Three Rock Box“, in its pristine Japanese remastered edition pressed on high quality SHM-CD, now out of print.
Sammy Hagar hit a nerve with his previous LP, and this follow-up “Three Lock Box” would prove not only that its predecessor wasn’t a fluke, but that the Red Rocker was in a legitimate groove when the album was released on Nov. 30, 1982.
According to Hagar himself, “Three Lock Box” is one of his favorite solo albums. Working with skilled producer Keith Olsen, this new effort was surrounded by a lush sound design, and collaborations from renowned AOR musicians such as Loverboy’s Mike Reno, Journey’s Jonathan Cain, future Mr. Mister’s Richard Page and Giant’s Alan Pasqua, among others.

VAN HALEN – Live… ’92 [Alive The Live Japan release] *0dayrox Exclusive*

Only released in Japan by ‘Alive The Live’ specialized label, ”Live… ’92” captures VAN HALEN at the Selland Arena, Fresno CA, during the US tour in support of their chart-topping For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album.
At the time, and with almost 2 decades as a band, VAN HALEN didn’t had yet an official live album. Here they took the best of the two Selland Arena shows and agreed to broadcast on the radio.
Next year VAN HALEN would release their official live album “Live: Right Here, Right Now” containing almost the same track list, but many fans think that album doesn’t make justice to VH preforming live, it feels a bit cold.
On this ”Live… ’92” the band is hot and having a good time, and while sound quality isn’t as clear and polished as on “Live: Right Here, Right Now” (with its studio overdubs) it’s good enough to enjoy the whole thing, with Eddie’s guitar much more upfront in the mix.

Requested by one of you, here’s “Standing Hampton“, another SAMMY HAGAR album in its pristine Japanese remastered edition pressed on high quality SHM-CD, now out of print.
“Standing Hampton” is Hagar’s first album for Geffen Records, and some kind of breakthrough for his solo career achieving RIAA certification eventually going platinum, and five of its singles charted in either the mainstream rock or pop singles charts.

Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of VAN HALEN‘s “For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge“, perhaps the most complete (and best) album from the Hagar era. Few people know – even some rabid VAN HALEN fans – that the Sammy Hagar-era albums have been remastered as part of the WB Records Japan ‘Forever Young’ series. These are the only remastered versions available of these albums.
All Van Halen albums from the Sammy Hagar-era have that bombastic, glossy ’80s production, but especially on the first two, the bass presence is scarce, typical from the era.
