VAN HALEN – Transmission Impossible (2018)

HERE

This VAN HALEN 3-CD release “Transmission Impossible” claims to be part of the ‘Legendary FM Radio Broadcasts’ series, focused on David Lee Roth era of Van Halen’s career featuring previously unreleased live performances from Tokyo, Japan in 1978, Dallas, Texas in 1982, and a solo gig from David Lee Roth at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, in 1994.

This release is of special interest for Van Halen / DLR fans and for all Rock aficionados as well because there’s no official live recordings from the band’s first period with the flamboyant vocalist as frontman.
Seems the transmission was pretty ‘impossible’ indeed, as the sound quality is not the best in the world.
In fact, these 1978 & 1982 concerts (CD1 & CD2) aren’t FM broadcasts: the Japan show is a soundboard recording (pretty good), while the Texas ’82 is an audience recording.
Anyway, both are previously unheard, and worth the listen for the Van Halen fans out there, especially CD1.

Regarding CD3, sound quality is much better (1994) and indeed it’s a FM Radio broadcast, showcasing an energetic David Lee Roth that night, and a strong set of back up musicians playing hot.

VAN HALEN - Transmission Impossible (2018) back

Van Halen’s David Lee Roth-era live performances are scarce, and few with good audio quality. This “Transmission Impossible” is not perfect at all, but it’s a must for VH fans and general aficionados to taste how hot the band was with Roth at the mic, for many, the greatest era of this influential band.

could you up “Washington & Battery” by the band Head On, reissued on the Demon Dolls label?

I’ll never understand why those old bands aren’t releasing their classic live recordings from. You don’t even have to make it a physical copy since you can go the full digital route like Metallica and The Rolling Stones. They aren’t too shy to make a buck from this.

My theory is that musicians like Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen are too anal about their live recordings.
