THE FIRM – The Firm [Japan Edition Digital Remaster / Victor ~ VDP-1016]

And after the recent Jimmy Page-related material, an obvious choice is his 80s super-group THE FIRM, formed in 1984 with singer Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), drummer Chris Slade (Uriah Heep, AC/DC) and awesome bass player Tony Franklin (all the greats).
The Firm’s self-titled resulted quite  successful both in America and Europe ranging from the epic “Midnight Moonlight”, based on a previously unreleased song by Led Zeppelin called “Swan Song” – first tinkered with during the Physical Graffiti sessions – to the commercial, catchy “Radioactive” which topped Billboard’s Top Rock Tracks chart.
Both THE FIRM albums have been repeatedly requested here, asking for the best sounding CD press as none have been remastered.
The choice is easy: at the time, there wasn’t better sounding CD’s than the discs manufactured in Japan. The OBI claims being a ‘Digital Remaster’, but in fact refers to the digital transfer, there wasn’t such ‘remastering’ concept / technology in the Eighties.
Anyway, the sound quality blows out of the water any other version, even today, because both The Firm albums never have been officially reissued, at least on CD.

THE FIRM – Mean Business [Japan Edition Digital Remaster / Victor ~ VDP-1080]

And after the recent Jimmy Page-related material, an obvious choice is his 80s super-group THE FIRM, formed in 1984 with singer Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), drummer Chris Slade (Uriah Heep, AC/DC) and awesome bass player Tony Franklin (all the greats).
Mean Business” is the second and final studio album by the band, released in 1986, with the same bluesy formula as on the first album but according to times, even more polished in production.
Both THE FIRM albums have been repeatedly requested here, asking for the best sounding CD press as none have been remastered.

JIMMY PAGE – Outrider [Japan SHM-CD Ltd. mini-LP Remastered] Out Of Print

With the Coverdale / Page posts featured here, it is almost mandatory to present as well JIMMY PAGE 1988’s solo album “Outrider“, a terrific record featuring the likes of Jason Bonham, Barriemore Barlow, Tony Franklin, Robert Plant and more.
I love this album, and the version of the classic tune ‘Hummingbird’ is the best I ever heard, and worth this disc alone.
This out of print, Japanese min-LP replica limited numbered remastered release on SHM-CD really makes a difference in sound quality.
