ECHOES – Barefoot To The Moon [An Acoustic Tribute to Pink Floyd] (2015)
The album title “Barefoot To The Moon [An Acoustic Tribute to Pink Floyd]” speaks for itself about the content, but the performers known as ECHOES are not just another Pink Floyd cover band. These German musicians have been doing this for twenty years and they present an amazing show.
A very popular tribute act in central Europe, Echoes are made up of experienced musicians, being the most famous Oliver Hartmann (Avantasia, Rock Meets Classic) who also delivered a bunch of great melodic rock albums as solo artist some years ago. His vocals are stupendous, and he is able to play the guitar pretty well too.
For Echoes, a new challenge happened to be performing the work of Pink Floyd acoustically. Everybody wondered if that is possible, but after listening few songs from “Barefoot To The Moon” you are already convinced.
The recordings for this CD / DVD took place in December 2014 at the Stadttheater in Aschaffenburg in Germany where the band was supported by a string quartet from Prague.
It is worth mentioning that not only Oliver does a proper share of vocals, but all musicians do, to come up with the best possible result. Also female vocalist Carolin Riehemann performs a captivating version of ‘The Great Gig In The Sky’.
Echoes know how to catch the grandeur of Pink Floyd, even in this stripped off version, in a wonderful manner.
Pianist Paul Kunkel spreads his magical aura over the audience on his Steinway piano, but also saxophonist Michael Unger has an important role complementing the acoustic guitars. You have many electric instruments as well as an occasional guitar solo, electric pianos, synths, etc
