RECKLESS – Too Glam To Die (2015)
Someone go and tell Italians RECKLESS that it’s 2015 now… no better leave ’em thinking this is 1987, as their new album “Too Glam To Die” pours all the great things that made the ’80s Sunset Strip scene so enjoyable.
With vocals reminiscent of a young Tom Keifer’s Cinderella, guitars riffs akin Motley Crue and L.A. Guns and an overall glammy attitude in the vein of Tuff, RECKLESS, the 4-piece from Vicenza, Italy, rocks like hell.
“Too Glam To Die” is all about the second half of the ’80s, from Reckess’ image to the swaggerin’ music packed inside.
However, this is not cheap lipstick & spray, these guys are able to pen solid songs and some memorable, gang-fueled choruses.
Since the rocking opener title track, numbers like the pretty heavy ‘What I Need’, the anthemic ‘Wild Sensation’, or ‘Kiss This!’ (title says all), Reckless rocks darn fine.
There’s a lot of fun in ‘Drivin’ With My Old Car’, the motoring ‘Heartwrecker’ (strong Cinderella feel) and the arena-ready ‘We’re Born To Fight’, but Reckless also deserve space for melody.
This can be heard in the killer midtempo ‘Thrill Of The Night’ (there’s can’t be a bad song with this title), the elaborated slow-burn melodic rocker ‘Tears Of Glory’, and later on the (great) raspy ballad ‘I Was Born To Make You Dream’.
Reckless’ “Too Glam To Die” is a compelling time machine back to the glory days of Californian hard rock / glam scene.
All the tricks from the genre are here, but not in a copy-cat manner; the guys add their personal touch and updated production.
Very, Very Recommended.
