Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees CHICAGO got a new “Greatest Hits Live” album out, recorded at Chicago’s historic WTTW-TV studios in November of 2017.
Greatest Hits Live features a career-spanning collection of hits, including “Beginnings,” “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day,” and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” to the later chart topping “If You Leave Me Now,” “Hard Habit To Break,” and “You’re The Inspiration.”

Chicago began their innovative chart-topping musical rise in 1969, with the debut of their double first album Chicago Transit Authority. It was followed by another incredible full piece of work, Chicago II, also a double album.
When Chicago opened for Jimi Hendrix back in 1968, Hendrix was quoted, “Jeez, your horn players are like one set of lungs and your guitar player is better than me.”
At the end of the Seventies, Chicago’s sound switched to a softer more pop-oriented sound. By the 1990’s, after producing dozens of albums, the band’s live shows had become a stale shallow shadow of the former avant-garde rock shows.

But the latest incarnation of Chicago has returned to the band’s rock roots, not just in material but style as well and their recent tours may be their best in decades.
“Greatest Hits Live” features the line-up of original members singer/ keyboardist Robert Lamm, James Pankow, and Lee Loughnane along with Tris Imboden, Keith Howland, Lou Pardini, Walfredo Reyes, Jr., Ray Herrmann, and Jeff Coffey.

Guitarist Keith Howland channeled original guitarist Terry Kath raw energy on classic songs like “25 or 6 to 4.” Lamm sang lead on many songs and occasionally would play a keytar, while Loughnane never missed a note. Ray Herrmann raged on the saxophone and also played many wind instruments, doing original member Walter Parazaider proud. Keyboardist Lou Pardini also would take turns as lead vocalist during the night, with excellent performances.

CHICAGO - Greatest Hits Live (2018) back

This is a true career-spanning, with old songs but also Chicago’s rock&pop hits such “Hard Habit To Break” and “You’re The Inspiration (Live 2018)”. Chicago has enough hit material to fill 4 discs, but the selections are really well balanced here.
“Greatest Hits Live” is a must have for any longtime fan, and a great introduction of Chicago’s brilliance to new listeners.
These veterans sound good, very good.
