OLE BORUD – The Best remastered [Japan only release +3] Out Of Print
We’re living in a renaissance of the soulful, funky side of West Coast AOR / pop of decades past – Think Steely Dan, Michael McDonald and Doobie Brothers. They’ve all been rediscovered by hipsters and other trend-conscious music-fans, slightly ironically named «yacht-rock». However, all too few of them has noticed that one of the worlds best artists of the genre is Norwegian!
We have premiered here OLE BORUD‘s new album, and now here’s “The Best”, a remastered compilation exclusively made for the Japanese market including songs from Ole’s hard to find first 2 albums, plus new songs only included into this CD.
Since the early 2000’s, Borud has become some kind of a West Coast embassador not only in Scandinavia but also all over Europè and Japan with his baggage of songs that are textbook examples of seamless songwriting in the Becker / Fagen tradition.
The sky-high level of the music is easier to grasp when one considers Borud’s background. As a second generation member of the Børud family, he’s been a professional musician since he was 16, but in reality, he’s been on stage full-time since he first was able to stand.
Firstly in the family-band, Arnold B Family, then – among other things – as a metal musician in the group, Extol.
As a guitarist and arranger, he belongs to the elite of both live and session musicians in Norway.
Japanese audience love Borud’s music, and after the success of his album “Keep Movin’ (overall his third but the first released in Japan) his local recording label asked him for this “The Best”.
Ole Borud then remastered all the material himself selecting songs from his first 3 albums, and as gratitude to the loyal Japanese fans he added 2 exclusive songs for the release.
As plus, there’s a third track Borud recorded for Contante & Sonante rarities; a cover of ‘Through the Fire’ composed by David Foster / Tom Keane and made populat by Chaka Kan in hte ’80s.
After a strong appearance in last years Stjernekamp, a Norwegian song talent TV-show, Børud is getting considerable airplay in Classic Rock Radio.
I hope this make him achieve a wider recognition, the man is true talent, a musician with ‘gusto’.
