JEFF BERLIN – Jack Songs [Feat. Sammy Hagar, Geddy Lee, Billy Sheehan] (2022)

Considered by his peers one of the best bass players in the world, virtuoso JEFF BERLIN has announced that his new star-studded album, ”Jack Songs”, will finally released. The album is a tribute to legendary Jack Bruce, best known for his work with classic rock group Cream as well as his critically acclaimed solo work, who passed away in 2014. Berlin was a personal friend of Jack’s and wanted to record his songs in remembrance of how Jack helped Jeff to find his own musical path.
The record pulls in all manner of names and focuses more on Bruce’s own compositions and solo material, as opposed to his best known tracks with Cream. Alongside Berlin’s band including talented singer Ron Hemby we find Rush’s Alex Lifeson, Eric Johnson, “Bumblefoot” Thal, Geddy Lee, Billy Sheehan, just to name a few.
Oh, and you will surprised to hear Sammy Hagar doing lead vocals on a song with a register almost unrecognizable.

Each track feature guests. As few examples; Lifeson on the ‘Creamed’ dropping a great solo, while Eric Johnson takes care of the solo on ‘Theme from an Imaginary Western’ (a track that was a hit for Mountain but was penned by Bruce for his debut album Songs for a Tailor).
Thal contributes a solo on ‘Rope Ladder to the Moon’ and there is yet more guitar talent on show in the form of Bill Frisell, who guests on ‘One With A Word’, while country ace Johnny Hiland stars on Cream tune ‘Train Time’.

‘Jack Songs’ isn’t a cover CD, not in the literal sense. Except for a couple of tunes from his Cream period (arranged in ways that should surprise people) most of the songs on this CD come from other periods in Jack’s musical life after Cream. Jack’s solo career represented a multitude of musical styles.
This recording is a new revamp of some of those songs, all performed in a Classic Rock mold, with great vocals and superb musicianship.
