Today we bring to you something special: BJ‘s “Acoustic Heroes“, a lovable promotional CD, not for sale.
BJ is a Brazilian singer, guitarist & keyboardist, frontman of hard rockers Tempestt whom released their debut in 2008 via Metal / AOR Heaven label. He is mostly known for being part of Jeff Scott Soto’s touring band, you can see & hear him on Soto’s ‘Live In Madrid’ CD/DVD.

Vocalist B.J. started his career at 17, being a member of Brazilian local bands like Henceforth and Skyscraper while he recorded his first album at 18 with The Pills, making his debut appearance in the Brazilian MTV.
Constant member of the Brazilian hard rock band Tempestt, he released an album titled “Bring ’em On” in 2008 followed by a world tour. He recorded this “Acoustic Heroes” as a tribute to his influences.

Since 2009 he is a steady member of the Jeff Scott Soto band and since 2014 he is a member of the new Jeff Scott Soto project SOTO. In 2014, he performed with Talisman as a keyboard player and back vocalist for their much anticipated reunion performance at the Sweden Rock Festival. Apart from his amazing vocal talent, BJ expertly plays guitar and keyboards.

The idea of “Acoustic Heroes” arose from BJ’s desire to honor his musical heroes doing acoustic versions from truly classic acts of Melodic Hard Rock history such as Steve Perry, Whitesnake, Kiss, Winger, Deep Purple, Mr. Big, Talisman, Toto, Bon Jovi, Extreme & more.
This isn’t a strange territory for BJ as he started his career almost twenty years ago playing covers from these bands. In fact, Tempestt debut includes a great version of Journey’s classic “Don’t Stop Believing”.

Talking about this perennial gem of a song, take a look at BJ’s tattoo in his arm… without a doubt this guy is a Melodic Hard Rock fan from the heart.

Jeff Scott Soto clearly knows something about this game, and he has chosen BJ as member of his band for a reason (Jeff also duets on one track in Tempestt’s debut). BJ also is part of Kip Winger’s touring band in South America and some European legs, so you can get a picture of BJ’s talents…

“Acoustic Heroes” features some really outstanding acoustic versions played and arranged in a simple but awesome way. All is mostly focused on BJ’s warm and colourful vocal timbre, but he is helped by fine musicians including partner in Tempestt guitarist Leo Mancini, who also co-produced the whole thing.

One of the things that I really liked is the song selection: BJ avoided the ‘major hits’ and instead picked up ‘inside tracks’ from these terrific bands, titles which otherwise should have been hits by its own merit.
So we have fantastic renditions of “High On You” (Survivor), “Looking For Love (Whitesnake), “Promise Her The Moon” (Mr. Big) and the highlight for me – and unexpected cover – of Toto’s “Isolation”.

Also are found more obvious classics like “Living On Prayer” (Bon Jovi), “Forever Young” (Tyketto), “Foolish Heart” (Steve Perry), a magnificent take on “Heaven” (Gotthard), “I Still Love You” (Kiss) and even a Tempestt song as bonus track, all performed with taste and extreme professionalism. Same can be said about production: crisp and crystal clear.

“Acoustic Heroes” was recorded for promotional use, and it’s not for sale on stores.
BJ is complete musician, a blue-ribbon singer plenty of emotion and versatility that I hope will have the chance to shine as solo artist. Labels take notice.
