The ”Lost US Jewels” Vol.5 ; SCARLETT – One Night Long [2019] (Out Of Print)
Some great AOR & Melodic Rock acts – specifically in the Eighties / Nineties – both in UK and the US never got the luck they truly deserved. This is the mission of Steelheart Memories Records with their “Lost UK / US Jewels” Collector’s Series; endeavour to bring you these ‘hidden treasures’ via Limited Edition Collector’s Volumes (500 copies pressed of each CD) under the supervision of Classic Rock AOR / Powerplay / AOR Underground journalist Rob Evans.
The Lost U.S. Jewels Series takes care of the 1988 cassette-only debut album “One Night Long” by Sacramento melodic rockers SCARLETT, plus 8 unreleased tracks taped 1990-91. The self-distributed debut album enthused fans as well as critics, but somehow the scene was already so saturated that such a high quality album couldn’t prevail any longer.
Over 30 years ago a group of young men came together with a single goal to create music and have fun doing it. Scarlett was born, and over the years as time went on the band went through many changes and evolved as a unit and eventually dissolved as each individual felt compelled to search for their own path.
Before the disbanding of the group get a chance to jot down their place in history, small as it may be, by recording some of their songs and performing those same ideas for many people. Scarlett accomplished this on a small local scale, but never were able to say that their art was a published format therefore validating their work.
There’s where Steelheart Memories Records / AOR Underground appeared, contacting the band after hearing some of their material on Youtube and asked to finally release Scarlett’s complete recordings and tell their story.
“One Night Long” – The Lost US Jewels Vol 5” includes the self-released, cassette-only from 1988, four previously unreleased tracks from 1990, and other 4 from 1991, all digitally remastered.
The songs from ‘One Night Long’ are in the melodic rock / AOR vein of American bands such as Night Ranger, Autograph, Blue Tears, etc. All lovable stuff very well done and recorded.
Tracks from 1990 / 91 features a new vocalist and the material continues in the same style yet adding some punch, let’s say similar to Icon and why not some Stryper around the era. The killer ‘Follow Your Heart’ sounds a lot like Dokken.
While demos, the sound quality is good and clear.
Scarlett’s ‘One Night Long [Lost US Jewels Vol.5 Collectors Series]’ is another one for the collection from lost US bands that deserved more exposure. It’s never too late, and while limited to 500 copies already sold out, you can still search for a pre-owned CD copy.
