CRASH STREET (ex Razor Sharp) – Crash Street [Retrospect Records] *HQ*
As requested, here’s the pretty awesome New Jersey ’80s band CRASH STREET, and their album ‘Crash Street‘ released by Retrospect Records – all late ’80s / early ’90s recorded previously unreleased music.
CRASH STREET evolved from the band Razor Sharp formed in 1980 by guitarist Tom Saffioti and drummer Billy Orrico (currently in Angel, ex Biloxi, ex Tug of War). Why the band changed their name? Read below.
Originally Razor Sharp used to play Melodic Hard Rock / AOR with an American flavor, and released an indie cassette. They were really good as songwriters and performers, catchy songs, proper looks… Why they didn’t make it big? Razor Sharp was on the verge to make a deal for a debut album, but… then their manager sued the band asking for… money.
That really ruined the band, and after a long legal battle they decided to shift to CRASH STREET at the end of the Eighties and try again. Unfortunately, that elusive deal never materialized. The band recorded several songs, but call its day in 1993. All these songs are packed on this Retrospect Records with a very good sound quality for indie recordings.
While on ‘Crash Street’ we find a more alternative sound on one track (the last the band recorded), the rest of the music is pure late ’80s US Melodic Hard Rock, with strong vocals, lots of hooks and harmonies. With better luck, CRASH STREET / Razor Sharp would have been huge.
