While he’s well known for having been part of the Jeff Scott Soto band, Takara, Huguenin and others, GARY SCHUTT has been a solo artist as well for over 25 years. His vast catalog of original music spans from pop to metal to melodic rock. His albums gained critical acclaim from international press and fans.
And Gary is a restless, prolific songwriter and now is releasing his new album “The Beautiful Darkness“. Being prolific doesn’t mean Schutt can’t write good songs. And he’s a darn fine composer, especially when he focuses on melodic hard rock as is the case with “The Beautiful Darkness”.
SCHUTT does everything on this new record, and he does all with class and attention to detail. His voice is getting better each year – he even coach other musicians – and his drumming is first class. Seems this pandemic and almost zero chance to perform live has stimulated the creative spark of many musicians. “Drastic Measures” is the second album former Jeff Scott Soto guitarist GARY SCHUTT wrote and finished during 2020.
He already delighted us with ‘Nightmares, Bad Dreams And Other Alternate Realities’ early this year, and now comes with a bunch of brand new songs, all sung, performed and produced by Schutt himself.
Even more varied than the previous CD, we find a groovy rocker on ‘Zombie Drive’, heavy funky riffs on ‘Anyone But Me’ (think Richie Kotzen solo), and a great hard rocker on ‘Dreamcatcher’ (love the guitar work). But Gary is becoming a better and better vocalist with each new record, and it shows.

Former Jeff Scott Soto guitarist GARY SCHUTT is about to release a new solo album lengthy titled “Nightmares, Bad Dreams And Other Alternate Realities“, however there’s ten songs on the CD which in only 36 minutes Schutt delivers an entertaining mix of melodic hard rock, groovy rhythms, a ballad, and of course, some great guitar work. All varied, melodic rocking numbers. And let me tell you, this is better than many ‘major label’ releases out there.
Schutt’s vocals are better than ever, and production – he handles everything – is clear and punchy.
