SILENT RAGE‘s debut album “Shattered Hearts”, another essential record in your ’80s Melodic Hard Rock / AOR collection, just has been remastered by Rock Candy Records and featured here at 0dayrox in exclusive.
Based in Los Angeles, Silent Rage formed way back in 1985 and soon resulted picked up by Melodic Rock craftsman Paul Sabu whom would go on to provide some songwriting, as well as production, mix & engineering for this much overlooked debut album “Shattered Hearts”.
Sabu helped to shape Silent Rage’s sound in the American Melodic Hard Rock / AOR style of the second half of the ’80s, much in the vein of his own band from the era; Only Child.

Fronted by talented Jesse Damon, Silent Rage’s music fist full of heavy yet catchy melodies placed them at the forefront of a scene bursting with big-time possibilities.
They were in good company with such masters as Guiffria, House of Lords and White Sister; acts that infused their sound with memorable hooks, tough guitar riffs and big bold songs.
Fans of the genre expected them to make a major splash – and in many ways they certainly did – despite registering a lack of major commercial success.

The band origins date back to the late Seventies working under the simpler handle of Rage, the band eventually settled as a four man unit led by vocalist Jesse Damon (real name Timmy James Reilly) and through a succession of brief encounters managed to hook up with producer/artist Paul Sabu.
It was Paul who suggested they track their debut album and helped to introduce them to Chameleon Records who subsequently signed the band.

Issued in 1987, ‘Shattered Hearts’ is one of the era’s finest melodic rock releases. It perfectly encapsulates the spirit of rock of the late ’80s, pushing the envelope with big hooks, commanding vocals, blistering guitar riffs and production values that perfectly encapsulate the band’s sound and style.
The album opens with the punchy ‘Rich Young And Pretty’, followed by one of my favorites, the AORish ‘Rebel With A Cause’. This track was later re-recorded by Silent Rage for their second effort but this original version has a special magic.
You can hear Sabu’s touch in title track ‘Shattered Hearts’, as well as on ‘Fight For Rock’, some kind of a hair metal anthem.

“Sarina” is a super melodic rock tune with a sing-along chorus, and ‘Make It Or Break It’ has a commercial hit single potential if it would have been properly promoted.
‘Goodnight Lorraine’ is true US AOR 1987, same with ‘You’re Not The First One’ plenty of keys, and another fav of mine, the excellent ‘Some Kind Of Woman’.

An underrated US Melodic Hard Rock / AOR album that should be placed higher in everyone’s ‘best of the ’80s’ list, Silent Rage’s “Shattered Hearts” is full of ’80s magic, hooks, huge choruses and gang backing vocals that made this genre so beloved.
A really welcomed remaster / reissue.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Great post but odd that the Rock Candy remaster is missing Soul Survivor, the bonus track from the 2009 Retrospect reissuse.
