DAVID GLEN EISLEY (Giuffria) – Tattered, Torn and Worn (2019) *HQ*

Ex Giuffria, Sorcery, Dirty White Boy et all frontman DAVID GLEN EISLEY returned some years ago with a new solo album titled “Tattered, Torn and Worn“, now out of print and a pretty hard to find CD. After his EISLEY / GOLDY project from two years ago alongside his Giuffria bandmate Craig Goldy, David has been working on this new solo effort helped by a fresh face for the scene, talented guitarist Paul Clem Calder. Both have created a set of very good, elaborated rockin’ songs here.
Indeed, since the start with ‘Y.M.I. (At All)’, a hard rocker with driving guitars and that unmistakable raspy vocals, the album delivers thirteen tracks of classy stuff. Eisley is in top form vocally, and he also performs drums – he started as musician behind the kit – and other instruments as well. And then we have Paul Clem Calder, a new guy into the scene, imaginative with the six strings via strong rhythm guitars and great solos to boot…

SHORTINO – Booked, Toured, … Released! (1999)

Paul SHORTINO is some kind of legend from the U.S. melodic hard rock history: he has been there since its inception, part of countless bands and having major label LP’s with Rough Cutt, Quite Riot, later King Kobra.
However, the ’90s, as happened to many 70/80s rockers, were hard times for Paul. He got the band Badd Boyz self-titled album released, but only in Japan. Paul then formed his own band SHORTINO, but struggled to find a proper management, and yet more difficult, a record deal.
A German label came to the rescue, and the album ‘It’s About Time’ was released in 1997, one of Paul Shortino’s best works. Presenting the CD in Europe, a gig was recorded and the result is this “Booked, Toured, … Released!“, only released in Germany and quite rare now.
Of course there’s songs from the new album, bur also Rough Cutt, Quite Riot, and Badd Boyz songs. This is a great recording, clean, crisp, not ‘stadium size’ but more ‘small venue’, and Paul sounds fantastic. We love the man alive, his bluesy voice isn’t restrained, it’s free and gorgeous.
And the band SHORTINO assembled is tight and oiled – the same line up that recorded the studio album – with twin guitar tandem serving a classic bluesy hard rock sound akin Whitesnake, Great White or ’80s Deep Purple.
This is pure rock n’ roll as it should be done and performed…

ALLIED NATION – Touch And Go [1986-1991] (CD version +3) out of print *HQ*

With the new ALLIED NATION 2025 release you need to hear their “Touch And Go” CD, comprising the Frisco band recordings from the ’80s / early ’90s. The album, put together by the sadly now defunct British label AOR-FM, was a limited edition including 3 extra / bonus tracks, liner notes, and lots of photos from the era.
This compilation showcase the talent of this five-piece whom were at the verge of being signed by major label Epic Records, but also it’s a perfect compendium of how American Melodic Rock evolved since the mid-Eighties to early-Nineties.
Included here are the very first ALLIED NATION recording from 1989 and the band style is U.S. pomp-AOR, with majestic analog keyboards and smooth vocals. On the 1988 tracks you can hear a more AOR / Melodic Rock feeling, then the 1990 songs are much more mature melodic hard.
Finally, the 1991 sees the addition of a new lead guitarist, and the music scaling to sharp hard rock, still with a clean melodic style. That’s how the genre evolved between 1985 -1992, and even unsigned bands like ALLIED NATION were part of the transformation.
“Touch And Go” packs strong songs with something for everyone, from pomp and AOR to melodic hard rock, all with an American sound & style. The melodic chemistry between the members is…

ALLIED NATION – Resurrection (2025) *HQ*

After many years of silence, San Francisco ’80s band ALLIED NATION is back with new music in the form of their new CD “Resurrection“.
Well, actually ALLIED NATION hasn’t been silent at all, as they are a requested cover act across the U.S. performing songs from Bad Company to Eddie Money. But they guys – ALLIED NATION retains the same line up for decades, they are not only bandmates, but friends – spent many years without recording new songs.
2025 and we have “Resurrection”, a recording of new original songs, some that have been staples in their live shows, but never recorded until now. ALLIED NATION’s current sound is classic melodic rock, hard rock, classic rock, and add an AOR touch too.
Songs like the catchy “Day by Day”, the very melodious ”Good Seed Gone Bad” (including Hammond), the AORish midtempo “Dead of the Night” or the ballad “Sheila” are quality, timeless melodic rock, kinda a mix of Tesla, Night Ranger, later-era Loverboy, etc. perfectly produced with a marvelous feeling…

ANGELINE – Rhythm Of One (2025) *HQ*

Formed in the ’80s but actually active on record since 2010, Swedes ANGELINE have been delivering quality Melodic Rock on their four albums to date. Now the the four-piece is releasing “Rhythm Of One“, a beautiful crafted new collection of songs in the classic Scandinavian style.
ANGELINE prefer quality over quantity, and we have here 10 tracks all over 38 minutes, effective, catchy and very enjoyable, all finely produced, mixed & mastered.
‘Peace Love & You’ kicks the album off into gear, with clean sturdy melodic guitars, drums, and keyboards, and then we are off into to stomping catchy arena hard rock. This is a Bon Jovi / Gotthard style melodic hard rocker with killer enjoyable energy and driven vocals from Joachim Nilsson. The band sound great and this is a fun catchy song that you will be singing along to from the start.
Then you have a catchy number with a Bon Jovi slant in the excellent ‘Now You See Me (Now You Don’t)’, the guitar work is crisp with fabulous vocals from Joachim. This track has a more melodic AOR feel, it’s ridiculously smooth and in an ideal world should be riding high up the charts – this is a killer track, AOR fans are going to go nuts…

V.A. – Ronnie James DIO : This Is Your Life tribute (Japanese Edition +2) + Digi Extra / *HQ*

To celebrate one of the most powerful voices ever in Rock – the great RONNIE JAMES DIO – an all-star group of friends and fans recorded a bunch of favorite tracks for a tribute album entitled “Ronnie James Dio : This Is Your Life“.
Produced by his longtime manager and wife Wendy Dio, the album includes contributions by such metal heavyweights as Metallica, Scorpions, Anthrax, Glenn Hughes, Rob Halford, Motörhead, as well as appearances by many of the musicians who performed with Dio over the years.
“This Is Your Life” truly is a worthy tribute to the life and works of Ronnie James Dio, in particular full of memorable vocal performances. This Japanese Edition includes 2 Bonus Tracks, and we added the Digital purchase exclusive track as extra.
“Catch The Rainbow” is performed by an ensemble lead by Ronnie James Dio’s fellow Black Sabbath alum Glenn Hughes and it was an ideal choice as Hughes voice is a very good fit for the most prog based track on this album. “I” is another Dio song given a worthy makeover while staying true to the original, courtesy of a group containing Dio bassist Jimmy Bain and singer Oni Logan, while “Man On The Silver Mountain” sees The Metal God himself Rob Halford front a band of Dio members past and present including Vinny Appice and Doug Aldrich in another enjoyable effort.
Special word must be afforded to Metallica’s “Ronnie Rising” medley; a sprint through four different Rainbow songs – “A Light In The Black”, “Tarot Woman”, “Stargazer” & “Kill The King”, it pays ultimate respect to the early part of Ronnie’s career. Admirable versions of the Rainbow classic “Temple Of The King” (performed by Scorpions) and…

RIK EMMETT – Ten Telecaster Tales (2025)

In his new offering “Ten Telecaster Tales“, TRIUMPH guitarist RIK EMMETT delves into the creative process — the roots, influences, philosophy, and spirituality involved in writing and recording.
”Ten Telecaster Tales” remakes the idea of the “concept album.” It is music that arrives inside a book. It’s also, arguably, the most comprehensive attempt at liner notes in the history of electric instrumental fingerstyle guitar albums.
Even the story behind these stories explores creativity. Emmett dreamed of then commissioned a guitar — a one-of-a-kind Telecaster-style guitar — then wrote and recorded with and for it.
Playfully, beautifully, ”Ten Telecaster Tales” lays bare an artistic journey in an act of discovery — that the storytelling inherent in writing good musical compositions translates into good storytelling about the process behind the songs, and how compositions turn into recordings.
A generous amount of fairy-tale mythology is sprinkled throughout — despite the whole process being assimilated by digital technology. The notion of a “telecaster tale” implies something “vintage” at its heart, and it is humanity that glues the layers together…

KATE Gulbrandsen – The Beauty And The Beat ’87 [Norske Albumklassikere 80-tallet] (2022) HQ *0dayrox Exclusive*

As requested, as part of the ‘Norske Albumklassikere 80-tallet’ series from the excellent Norwegian reissue label Norske Albumklassikere – which seems to have access to almost every Norwegian release from the 70s and 80s – comes this remastered reissue of the long time out of print album ”The Beauty And The Beat”, by Norwegian female singer KATE.
Kate Gulbrandsen born in Slemmestad, Røyken, and debuted on stage at only seven-years old. In 1985 won a local pop-rock competition and was allowed to take part in the Pop Festival in Egypt, where Norwegian promoter Arne Bendiksen was one of the organizers. She also participated in the World Popular Song Festival in Japan 1986, and won the Golden Award with the song “Carnival”, written by expert Scandinavian pop songwriter Rolf Løvland.
The two went to Los Angeles and began work on KATE’s debut album. She became nationally known after the Norwegian Grand Prix final in 1987, performing the winning song “Mitt liv” (9th place in the international final) also included into this reissue.
Løvland was he man behind KATE 1987’s “The Beauty And The Beat” debut CD, a synth-pop / rock & pop affair that worked pretty well all over Europe. With guitar solos provided by Svein Dag Hauge (Lava, Tindrum, Jim Jidhed) the album also include songs of interest for all Hi-Tech AOR fans out there, numbers like ‘Trick Of The Heart’, ‘Touch My Fantasy’, etc…

DELLA STREET – Faces (1989) + bonus tracks

As requested, here’s “Faces“, the one and only release by American rockers DELLA STREET, a five piece from New Mexico. Based in Albuquerque, DELLA STREET formed in the first half of the ’80s and toured the area performing covers and original material.
Soon the guys became popular, had their own gear and tour bus, and played across the country as headliners or sharing stages with many national acts from Cheap Trick and Kansas to Mariah Carey (!) in front of crowds as large as 35,000 people.
By 1989 DELLA STREET recorded “Faces”, an album of original material professionally released on silver-pressed CD via Indie / Private label Xclusive Records. These guys were strongly influenced by Boston, and you can tell that all over the 10 songs on offer, also with keyboards reminiscent of Styx. There’s some really wonderful tunes, very well arranged. DELLA STREET balanced things with other radio friendly songs in the REO Speedwagon mold. Despite being recorded 1989, DELLA STREET’s style is pretty late Seventies / early Eighties, that classic sound. And they are good.
As 0dayrox extra we added an unreleased song in demo form, plus their version of Heart’s ‘Barracuda’, one of the many covers of classic rock songs DELLA STREET still perform alive…

W.E.T. – This House Is On Fire (2025) *HQ*

Back in 2009, when Melodic Rock supergroup W.E.T. released their self-titled debut album, there was no anticipation of continuing to create music 15 years down the line. However, the three-piece comprised of vocalist Jeff Scott Soto, Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse) on guitar, bass, keys, and guitarist Robert Säll (Work of Art) return with their fifth studio album at the end of March, 2025.
As advance, W.E.T. and Frontiers Music are releasing the EP “This House Is On Fire“, a bold statement in the band’s confidence that they have delivered their best work to date. Songs full of big choruses and hooky melodies, all served on a platter of smooth heaviness..
The title track is ridiculously catchy, extremely melodic and surprisingly ‘glammy’, some kind of Wig Wam on steroids. ‘Where Are the Heroes Now’ is an anthemic number designed for sing-along arenas, while ‘Believer’ showcases W.E.T. heavier side.
Great appetizer, can’t wait for the full album…

SYRON VANES – Revenge [Steelheart Memories remaster + bonus] HQ *Exclusive*

Founded in the very early 80s, five-piece SYRON VANES were one of the first bands coming from Sweden inspired by the new wave of British Heavy Metal). After a tour in Germany in 1983, indie British label Ebony Records owner and producer Darryl Johnston offered the band a record deal, and in 1984 their first album ‘Bringer Of Evil’ was released. The LP sold well and Syron Vanes appeared in almost every rock magazine, hailed in the music press as the new big thing.
As requested, here’s the band second album, 1986’s “Revenge“, in its Steelheart Memories remastered reissue for the first time on CD, including bonus tracks. Guitarist Anders Hahne has managed to restore and enhance the recordings to a quality which is way better than the vinyl originals, but without changing the sound (i.e. NOT bringing the levels up to the max and compressing the sound beyond recognition).
As happened with most bands from the NWOBHM and Scandi Metal scene, their music morphed to a slightly more commercial path circa 1985. Not keyboard driven or anything, just a bit less classic metal and more hard rock with melody…

ERIK GRÖNWALL (Skid Row, H.E.A.T) – Eriksplanations Vol. 2 (2025) *HQ*

Oh my gosh, this dude did it again… Swedish vocalist ERIK GRÖNWALL (Skid Row, H.E.A.T) is releasing his second solo album titled “Eriksplanations Vol. 2”, where he performs covers of classic songs which inspired him became a musician. Since Erik joined the melodic rock band H.E.A.T in 2010 (recording 4 albums with them) he has been making covers and featuring these on his Youtube channel. Many fans around the world asked the singer to release an album with selected versions.
The viking gods heard your prayers and Erik released Eriksplanations Volume 1 with great success. Now, again with the help of ex H.E.A.T bandmate Jona Tee playing most instruments and producing, Erik presents “Eriksplanations Vol. 2“.
Among the classic tunes, Erik delivers pretty killer takes on ‘Faithfully’ (Journey), ‘Still of the Night’ (Whitesnake), Girls Got Rhythm (AC-DC), ‘Eagle Fly Free’ (Helloween cover feat Kai & Tim Hansen), Alone (Heart cover, duet with Chez Kane), Painkiller (Judas Priest) and many others.
This is great stuff!

Q5 – When The Mirror Cracks [Japanese Edition] (1986) *HQ*

After the recent very good album by the Rick Pierce Group produced by Floyd Rose many of you asked for both musicians’ former band Q5 and their Eighties debut album, the cult classic “Steel The Light” from 1984. But Q5 also recorded a second LP, 1986’s “When The Mirror Cracks“, not so well known as their debut but perhaps musically even better, more mature in songwriting & lyrics.
“When The Mirror Cracks” retained the band’s trademark traditional hard rock / melodic straight-forward metal sound however the mid-80 brought to all this type of outfits a strong radio melodic approach, keyboards in the mix and harmony rich choruses.
The title track rocks hard, but ‘Your Tears (Will Follow Me)’ is classic American AOR, with a polished sound production. Other excellent tunes can be found on titles such as ‘Livin’ On The Borderline’, or the passionate ‘Never Gonna Love Again’. Seriously, this is a great AOR album, still unheard by many…
