CAGE (Terry Ilous / JK Northrup) – Cage [Japan Edition +1] HQ

As requested, here’s the Japanese Edition of the CAGE‘s self-titled album, the project formed in the Nineties by talented vocalist Terry Ilous (XYZ, Great White) and guitarist Jeff ‘JK’ Northrup (King Kobra, Shortino/Northrup, et all). The album was reissued in Europe some years after by Axe Killer Records including an excellent bonus track which we added as extra.
Ilous & Northrup are not alone. A bunch of incredible friends and musicians accompany them on “Cage”: Pat Fontaine (XYZ), Carmine Appice (Cactus, Ted Nugent, King Kobra), Vinnie Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio), Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder), James Kottak (Scorpions) play here all over the recording – but also Matt Luneau (drums), the late Randy Castillo (Ozzy, Mötley Crüe, drums), Sean Mc Nabb (Quiet Riot, bass), Phil Soussan (Ozzy, bass), the great multi-instrumentalist Jeff Pilson (Dokken, Foreigner)…

FICTION SYXX – Ghost Of My Fathers Past (2021)

Melodic hard rock / progressive rockers FICTION SYXX have put together a very well thought out, superbly executed set of tracks on new album ”Ghosts of My Fathers Past”. Spurning out and out bombast – though there are many moments throughout the record where sheer pomp metal majesty does win the day – in favour of old fashioned concepts like songwriting smarts and sheer talent, the band have created nine thoughtful, often poignant cuts built around the superb vocals of ex- BILOXI Mark Lanoue and the excellent guitar playing of ex- KING KOBRA JK Northrup…

PAUL SHORTINO / JK NORTHRUP – Back On Track [Digitally Remastered +4 Bonus Tracks]

As requested, here’s the hard to find ‘10th Anniversary remastered reissue‘ of PAUL SHORTINO / JK NORTHRUP collaboration album “Back On Track“, featuring new artwork and 4 new tracks exclusive to this Shire Records release.
When he was fronting Rough Cutt in ’80s, Paul Shortino made so many friends. So for this recording he’s got help  from members of Great White, King Kobra, Dokken and several other bands, and with his friend Jeff “JK” Northrup put together this excellent record in the early Nineties, with all the feeling & sound from the 1990-92 American hard rock scene.
While rather hard to find – at least a used copy – as it is on a very small label, this diamond in the rough is well worth tracking down if you are a fan of any of Shortino’s work – past or present – and the first albums of House Of Lords, 21 Guns, Hurricane, etc.

THE MOOD GROOVE (JK Northrup) – Some Left, Some Stayed (2020-2021)

After a really cool self-titled debut, THE MOOD GROOVE, the super group formed by JK Northrup (Gypsy Soul, King Kobra, XYZ), singer Ed Balldinger, bassist Larry Hart (King Kobra, Montrose) and drummer Glen Hicks (Shortino-Northrup) are back with second effort “Some Left, Some Stayed“.
The guys contunue with their infectious blend of hard rock, heavy funk, blues, progressive, and more. They are helped by the likes of Eric Ragno (The Babys, Graham Bonnet) providing keyboards and others to create an entertaining piece of rock n’ roll…

JK NORTHRUP (King Kobra) – JK Northrup [recorded 1988-90] (Out Of Print)

JK NORTHRUP is a recognized musician and producer having recorded with the likes of Paul Shortino and Terry Ilous, perhaps better known for his work with King Kobra in the past. You might remember that he recorded the album “III” with them back in 1988. But at the same time Jeff “JK” Northrup started to tape his own songs for a project including KK vocalist Johnny Edwards (ex- Montrose and future Foreigner).
All these material never was released until this new century when Melodic Mayhem Music put out this CD simply titled “JK Northrup“, now out of print.
And glad they did it: we have here a great slice of 80s Melodic Hard Rock of the highest order: Just listen to “The Kid Is Back In Town” or the killer “Survival in the Streets”.
