If you’re reading this blog, you’re already aware that throughout its career DOKKEN has created some of the most quintessential American Hard Rock music ever. With iconic guitarist George Lynch out the crew long time ago, Don Dokken has managed to create a really good new album to the band’s legacy, entitled “Broken Bones“.
This Japanese Edition include the exclusive bonus track ‘Can’t Fight This Love’, and has become out of print being sold at ridiculous prices at auction sites.

Sure, George Lynch is a master seemingly irreplaceable, yet Don has found an awesome guitar player with John Levin whose been by his side since 2003. Levin may not be George, but he’s a monster 6-string shredder in his own right.
Don’s vocal issues have been talked about greatly over the last few years, but his voice is still in top form (at least into the studio) and he’s sounding as good as ever.

On top of that you have some spectacular songs that fit nicely with the classic material like “Best Of Me”, “Blind”, “Burning Tears” and “Tonight”.
Honestly, with music as strong as this and tight as the band sounds, who needs the original line-up reformed? Don is doing just fine with the guys he’s playing with now.

DOKKEN - Broken Bones [Japan Edition +1] Out Of Print back

I’ve been a Dokken fan since the earlier years – and remained a fan ever since. With the exception of the musical abortion called Shadowlife, Don’s music has always been superior, if not always fitting the classic mold of what fans expect from Dokken.
The record company blurb lists this album as Dokken’s return to greatness on this, their eleventh release, but the production belies the budget of the offering itself. That said, a great melody is a great melody whatever the budget of the album.

Now that Don’s voice is in top form again and they’re back to recording music more along the lines of the classic material, Dokken fans worldwide should rejoice.
Simply; with “Broken Bones”, you won’t be disappointed.
