BERNIE MARSDEN – Trios (2022)

Many will know guitarist BERNIE MARSDEN for being a founder member of Whitesnake, one of the biggest hard rock bands of all time, and writing the iconic global smash, “Here I Go Again”. Since leaving Whitesnake 40 years ago, Bernie has forged an impressive solo career, culminating in two UK Top 40 selling albums in 2021 with ‘Kings’ then ‘Chess’. Both were #1 in the Blues Charts and resulted in him receiving the Lord of the Blues award by HRH.
2022 Marsden is back – it’s always a pleasure to see him active – with a new CD titled ”Trios”, where the legendary British guitarist delivers another master class in classic rock history.
After his blues tribute albums ‘Kings’ and ‘Chess’ both released past year, on ”Trios” Bernie Marsden now recreates tracks by his favourite guitarists leading power trios, using his own three-piece completed by drummer Jimmy Copley (who passed away in 2017) and bassist David Levy (who was with Rory Gallagher on his final tours). The sessions date from 2007 but are previously unreleased.
This album does allow the harder rocking side of Marsden come to the fore, with some killer work both with guitar and vocally throughout, from Jimi Hendrix to Leslie West / Mountain…

CHICK CHURCHILL (feat. Cozy Powell, Bernie Marsden) – You & Me [remastered reissue]

This one is for old-school rockers, lovers of the Seventies sound when rock music was immediate, from the guts, when artists as soon got the songs written, as soon entered into the studio.
You & Me” is the 1973 album from British musician CHICK CHURCHILL, which included among the session musicians the great Cozy Powell on drums, future Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden, Supertramp leader Roger Hodgson on bass & guitar, and other talented musicians.
Real name Michael George Churchill wasn’t unknown at the time of this recording: a classically-trained pianist best-known as on/off keyboard man with Ten Years After, possibly the archetypal British blues/rock band, featuring Alvin Lee’s lightning-fast guitar work.
Musically “You & Me” goes from hard rock to pop-rock to progressive, all with melody and interesting arrangements. An unfairly forgotten gem from the British early Seventies scene which needed a CD edition, done by a Swedish label…

BERNIE MARSDEN – Cruise Blues (2019)

Former Whitesnake guitarist BERNIE MARSDEN started last year his ‘Inspiration Series’, releasing two albums including his own versions of blues classics as well own compositions, all served electrifying.
2019’s ”Cruise Blues”, a CD released by himself and only available at his website, was some kind of a genesis for the ‘Inspiration Series’, a disc where Marsden performs known songs like Bo Diddley’s ‘You Can’t Judge A Book By The Cover’ and originals.
The title of the CD originated from the set Marsden performed for the Soul At The Sea Entertainment company, several Cruise shows he did at the time. In fact, some of the tracks are captured live there, other are studio recordings.
I never had enough “Bernie”…

BERNIE MARSDEN – Chess (2021)

Former Whitesnake guitarist BERNIE MARSDEN is releasing ”Chess”, the second album in Marsden’s ‘Inspiration Series’, the follow up to the #1 Blues album ‘Kings’ appeared early this year. Featuring 10 songs that were originally issued by the legendary Chicago label Chess, this is another labour of love for Bernie.
Songs by giants such as Howling Wolf, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Elmore James, have all been given a new lease of life in these remarkably fresh recordings, and once again as on the first ‘Inspiration Series’ CD, there’s two Bernie Marsden penned tracks inspired by Chess artists appear as bonus tracks on the album.
”Chess” is blues, blues rocking, where he chooses and crafts his own interpretation of the iconic artists and songs that helped inspire and shape his own musical style and taste. It’s all great classic rock, thanks not only to Marsden (who sings as wonderfully as he plays), but also to his seasoned band…

BERNIE MARSDEN – Kings (2021)

Kings” is the first album of BERNIE MARSDEN’s “Inspirations Series”. Featuring 10 songs that were originally recorded by Albert, B.B. & Freddie King, and recorded in a studio in Oxfordshire with a band that just locked into a natural groove, “Kings” is chock full of blues and soul. Additionally, two Bernie Marsden penned songs inspired by ‘The Kings’ appear as bonus tracks on the album.
The LP marks both Marsden’s first solo effort since 2014’s ‘Shine’, and the first of his newly announced Inspirations series, which will see the former Whitesnake guitarist pay homage to a host of his influences.
Highly recommended pure music

COZY POWELL – Tilt [Korean Edition remastered]

It has been requested classic COZY POWELL albums in the best sound quality possible. “Tilt“, the second Cozy solo album has been reissued in Japan remastered an pressed on SHM-CD. Bu we’re more than happy with this Korean pressing which uses the same master and has an excellent disc manufacturing too.
”Tilt” features musical assistance from Jeff Beck, Don Airey, Bernie Marsden, Gary Moore and great vocals by Elmer Gantry (Alan Parsons) among other luminaries. Considered to be one of England’s best drummers, Cozy Powell was legendary for a heavy-hitting style that could be made to work with many styles of music, which are addressed here…

COZY POWELL – Over The Top [Universal Japan Hard & Heavy series]

It has been requested classic COZY POWELL albums in the best sound quality possible. “Over The Top“, the first Cozy solo album has been reissued in Japan on SHM-CD. We don’t have it, but don’t need it either: this ‘Universal Japan Hard & Heavy series’ from 2007 uses the same remaster and it sounds fabulous.
This is a Nineties remastering – the only available for this album – and perfectly fits to this recording: this is a late Seventies album and this type of ‘quiet’ remaster preserves the original harmonics.
The pristine sound quality from this Japanese CD is clearly noticeable against the other pressings we heard.
With Gary Moore, Bernie Marsden, and Don Airey among the musicians surrounding Cozy on this album, you only can expect superb musicianship.
