COBRA – Live Bite! November 27, 1983, Memphis (KBFH radio vinyl LP) *0dayrox Exclusive*

And to complete the COBRA / Jimi Jamison saga here we go with the band’s concert in Memphis while presenting their debut LP First Bite. This is a recording for radio broadcast pretty common move for band’s promotion at the time.
Into the Live Bite! set-list we find songs never recorded into the studio by COBRA – and some which become hits for others, like MSG (Schenker), or VAN ZANT.
While there’s a bootleg of this show floating the internet, it’s with cuts and not in this quality sound: this is taken from the vinyl LP pressed for the broadcast. Usually only few were made, not for sale.

COBRA – The Making Of First Strike [the 1982 demos] *0dayrox Exclusive*

As requested, here’s COBRA original demos, the first material recorded with Jimi Jamison in 1982. Many of these songs didn’t make it into the official 1983 ‘First’ Strike’ album but are as good as any of them.
This is the tape dispatched to all major labels. A&R guru John Kalodner from Geffen passed on singing the band saying of Jamison vocals; “We already have one David Coverdale, why do we need another?” But Doreen Reilly, a talent scout from Epic, resulted impressed by the band and immediately signed them. The rest is history.
The Making Of First Strike” demos is a collectible tape, with a more biting guitar by the great Mandy Meyer, while the overall sound quality is very good.

COBRA (Jimi Jamison) – First Strike [Rock Candy Remastered & Reloaded] HQ

After all the ’80s Survivor material featured here, I think it is necessary to complete the circle with an album strongly related to this incredible US Melodic Rock band; “First Strike” by COBRA featuring future Survivor vocalist Jimi Jamison. This Rock Candy remaster is pure gold, officially for the first time on CD with a fantastic sonic treatment.
Originally issued in 1983 and produced by ‘Colonel’ Tom Allom (Judas Priest, Def Leppard, etc), “First Strike” remains one of the best and certainly one of the most criminally overlooked albums of the era.
Cobra rocks out hard on ‘Blood On Your Money’, ‘Only You Can Rock Me’ or ‘Danger Zone’ but are also capable of delivering a great ballad such as ‘Looking At You’, a real gem. My personal highlight is the epic ‘Travelin’ Man’, which alternates between brooding tension and glorious release as it explodes into an anthemic chorus.
This is a great Rock Candy 24-bit remastering from original source tapes, with a really interesting 4,000 word story of the making of the album by Dave Cockett and exclusive interview with Jimi Jamison, plus previously unpublished…
