Y&T – Free To Roll / Santa Barbara ’85 King Biscuit Flower Hour [FM Broadcast remastered] (2022)

Titled ”Free To Roll”, this is a recording of Y&T show in Santa Barbara from 1985, done for FM broadcast as part of the famous King Biscuit Flower Hour. Of course it’s a bootleg, but the sound quality is very good, now enhanced for our listening pleasure. Be aware there’s versions floating the net but not the complete set and with noises / cuts. This is the real ”Free To Roll” just released.
This show was the basis of Y&T’s ‘Open Fire’ live album, released later in the year. Y&T and was going from its longtime label home at A&M to the upstart high-brow label, Geffen, and the live disc was delivered to fulfill obligations.
However this show recorded for KBFH features a different track-list. There’s Y&T classics like “Lipstick And Leather,” “Go For The Throat,” and “Summertime Girls”. They do offer a lengthy guitar solo followed by a 12-bar blues jam before closing with high energy versions of “Mean Streak” and “Black Tiger.”
Y&T at their peak, pure Eighties US hard rock…

Universal Music Japan has started this year another campaign of their ‘HR/HM 1000‘ series, that meaning the reissue of long time out of print albums from their Hard Rock / Heavy Metal catalog at the price of 1000 Yen = about 9 USD.
As part of the 2022 HR-HM 1000 Vol.4 series there’s another essential Y&T album, 1981’s ”Earthshaker”. While most of the HR-HM 1000 series reissues take the original, first CD pressing mastering, in the case of ”Earthshaker” it was used the latest remaster – the same utilized on the now out of print SHM-CD release – which sounds pretty awesome.
Y&T founder & frontman Dave Meniketti was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer few days ago, fortunately caught early and the likelihood of surviving this is very high. One of the greatest melodic hard rock musicians ever, hope he recover soon…

Y&T – Earthshaker [Rock Candy remastered & reloaded]

Rock Candy Records did a ‘Remastered & Reloaded‘ treatment to the early ’80s Y&T albums, for many, the band’s finest moment. “Earthshaker” was Y&T’s first album for A&M and the first under their current name, after changing it from Yesterday and Today used on the two prior records.
This record changed everything for Meniketti & Co., with a polished production (yet still retaining a quite heavy sound) and full of radio-friendly hooks.
The whole album standouts driven by hot riffs, even present on the ballsy power ballad “I Believe In You”, a reference for just about every hair metal to come in the way of crafting their rock ballads.
“Earthshaker” stunned the hard rock world with its aggressive songs and production. It was a double whammy that breathed new life into the band’s profile, helping to re-establish them as…

Y&T – Yesterday & Today Live (reissue)

Except when featuring new material or songs never recorded into the studio, some ‘Live’ albums are a bit obvious. However in Rock history has been live recordings which largely surpassed the original versions and became classics. In the case of Y&T isn’t the former, but their “Yesterday & Today Live” is pretty closer to the latter.
Indeed, “Yesterday & Today Live”, released by Metal Blade Records, captures Dave Meniketti & Co. at the peak of their game, a well-oiled line up which sounds incredible.
Recorded at San Jose Cabaret, December 29 / 31, 1990, Y&T performs here not only like if it was the last day of the year, but the last day of the world…

Y&T (as ‘Yesterday And Today’) – OneTwo [first ST + Struck Down] Remastered / *Exclusive*

After the recent Rock Candy remasters of Y&T early albums, one of you asked for their first two records when the band operated under the YESTERDAY AND TODAY moniker. These LP’s were released via London Records, their label before being signed by major A&M. So few chances for a remastered reissue.
However Y&T mastermind Dave Meniketti got access to the master tapes and commissioned the remastering of first LP ‘Yesterday and Today‘ and follower ‘Struck Down‘ to Ken Lee, releasing the CD by himself via his website under the title “OneTwo“.
“OneTwo”, indeed, is a single disc containing the first two Yesterday And Today albums which were the holy grail for Y&T fans getting into the band in the ’80s and beyond, being hopelessly out of print for many years.
In 1992, a little company called Mondo Records released them on CD (unofficially). The sound quality left a lot to be desired. Anyway, and I’m guessing a lot of newer Y&T fans heard these seminal albums for the first time, then.
And then they were out of print again, save for costly imports.

There’s no mistaking that the opening riff to title “Mean Streak” represent the...
