THIN LIZZY – Transmission Impossible (2020)
As part of the great ‘Transmission Impossible‘ series, this 3-disc THIN LIZZY recordings from 1974/78 are must haves for the fans. These are FM radio broadcast takes, and considering the era the sound quality is very good, capturing THIN LIZZY’s essence as band. At places it seems you are there, in a sweaty club enjoying the atmosphere of Phil Lynott at his creative peak. And we have Gary Moore playing on one recording.
This is officially licensed THIN LIZZY merchandise, and if you are a fan, better grab your copy now as it’s a limited edition.
DISC ONE features Lizzy’s incredible live show recorded in Frankfurt, Germany in May 1974, equidistant from their September ’73 album, ‘Vagabonds Of The Western World’ and November ‘74’s ‘Nightlife’.
This recording features Andy Gee and John Du Cann on the six strings, one tour only from these two, so fairly rare.
Really interesting as you can hear the embryo of the Gorham/Roberston twin guitar sound before they joined the band. But the star here is Lynott. You can hear how much he was the ‘heart’ of this band, his passion to make Lizzy one of the greatest rock bands in history.
DISC TWO contains their 1976 concert, this time recorded at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on 21st April, just a few weeks after the release of their worldwide breakthrough record, ‘Jailbreak’. Classic line-up rocking it, and has a Robertson tack ‘Blues Boys’, at the time an unreleased studio track only performed live.
DISC THREE concludes this marvelous live collection with Thin Lizzy’s September 1978 gig, performed at Boston’s Paradise Theatre on 5th September.
At the time Lizzy had Gary Moore and Mark Nauseef handling the drums. This pre-Black Rose shows what a great live band Lizzy were. Raw and live. And always is a delight to hear Scott and Gary playing together.
Phil is in great form and his introductions to songs shows what has been removed from the Live & Dangerous official live album. The guitar on ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’ is stunning and so different to what is expected. Shame that ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ is cut short and ‘Baby Drives Me Crazy’ has a little interruption towards the end, but hey, the rest is brilliant.
