What a line up… and what a killer stuff we find into “Kings Of Mercia” first record.
In early 2021, Matheos started working on the songs that would become Kings Of Mercia’s self-titled debut album, bringing his distinct style yet doing something a little different. “I really liked the idea of going back to my early hard rock roots.”
And indeed folks, “Kings Of Mercia” is classic hard rock crafted with fantastic performances from all talents involved…

Produced by the band, “Thirteen” is yet another high-quality album that furthers the band’s standing as one of the premiere melodic rock / AOR entities in the world.
The band’s current line-up, in place since 2008, has spent the last decade plus writing, recording, and touring and thus is an incredibly gelled and cohesive unit. The rhythm section of bassist Merv Goldworthy and drummer Pete Jupp anchor FM with a rock-solid backbone, while guitarist Jim Kirkpatrick delivers delicious hooks and melodies with keyboardist Jem Davis adds lush layers to the band’s dynamic sound. PEPPERKID2 (Jem Davis & Steve Overland of FM) – Adventures In Pepperland (2021)

There’s a new kid in town: ‘Pepperkid2’ – the bright, new brainchild of FM’s creative keyboardist Jem Davis. ‘PEPPERKID2’ is the guise Jem has adopted for his solo album project: an album entitled ‘Adventures in Pepperland’, including Davis’ own songs that didn’t fit the FM vibe.
For this varied, eclectic adventure he’s not alone: FM bandmates Steve Overland perform vocals and Jim Kirkpatrik guitar, there’s as well lead vocals by Mike Dyer (Grand Slam) and female singer/coach Hayley Simone, talented Laurence Archer (UFO) and Nigel Spennewyn (Joe Cocker) providing guitar magic, and more.
Being a keyboardist album expect a lot of keys, synths, pianos, moog etc all over, however this is a song format album, with a wide array of influences from…

GROUNDBREAKER – Soul To Soul (2021) HQ

BROTHERS IN ARMS – Sunset And Clark (2021)

Guitarist / songwriter JACK FROST (Savatage, Jean Beauvoir, Aldo Nova) already pleased us some time ago with his album ‘Out In The Cold’ featuring a wide list of star vocalists / musicians from the ’80s / early 90s melodic hard rock scene.
BROTHERS IN ARMS is Frost’s new project, releasing today the album ”Sunset And Clark”, a wonderful 10-track collection of killer melodic hard rockin’ tunes plenty of super singers / musicians involved.
As example, the song ‘Last To Know’ features Jack on guitar along with vocalist Andrew Freeman (Last In Line, Lynch Mob, Hurricane), drummer Karl Wilcox (Diamond Head), bassist Alex Jansen (Hardline) and keyboardist Charlie Calv (Angel). FM – Tough It Out +5 [Rock Candy remastered & reloaded]

Originally appeared in 1989, the glorious year for Melodic Rock / AOR music, “Tough It Out” was the second album by FM, greatly remastered by Rock Candy Records plus five bonus tracks.
Their debut album, ‘Indiscreet’, set the scene perfectly. This was a British band with their eyes set firmly on the American market, playing music equal to, if not superior, than masters of the craft such as Foreigner, Journey and Survivor.
That they had not earned a significant sales foothold was shocking but it only fueled their resolve to come back out swinging with their sophomore album, the stoically titled “Tough It Out”. This time around…

FM – Tough It Out Live (2021)

FM are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their second album “Tough It Out” with the release of a new double live album, “Tough It Out Live“. Originally released by Epic Records in 1989, “Tough It Out” broke into the UK Top 40 and saw contributions from songwriting luminaries such as Desmond Child (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, etc.), Jesse Harms, Robin and Judith Randall (Mark Free).
The record is understandably regarded as a Melodic Rock / AOR classic and the band played it in its entirety on their last shows of 2019 in the UK and Germany to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release.
In addition to the tracks from the “Tough It Out” album, this live release is complemented by a number of tracks which FM have rarely performed live, cherry picked to offer a setlist that gives the discerning fan a great insight into the band’s deeper repertoire.

FM – Indiscreet [Rock Candy Remastered 2-CD set / 18 bonus tracks]

With the recent reissue of FM members earlier band Wildlife, many of you asked for this superb remaster of FM‘s first LP “Indiscreet“, remastered by Rock Candy Records. When the band were celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the release of their classic debut “Indiscreet”, in conjunction with Rock Candy Records they assembled a Deluxe 2 CD set containing the original album freshly digitally remastered plus no less than 18 bonus tracks.
Alongside the original “Indiscreet” album plus rare BBC sessions and a live track on one CD, the release includes an extra disc of rarities such as singles b-sides, extended 12” remix versions, live tracks, and for the first time on CD, the hard to find instrumental version of “American Girls” (only appeared on a mega rare maxi-single vinyl back in 1986) special to demonstrate your skills at the mic / karaoke.

WILDLIFE (Steve Overland) – Wildlife [Wounded Bird Records remastered reissue] Out Of Print

Accompanying the reissue of WILDLIFE‘s first album, here we have in exclusive the rare, now out of print remaster by Wounded Bird Records of the band’s second, final LP, the self-titled “Wildlife”.
Steve Overland and his brother Chris insisted with their project WILDLIFE and for this second effort they get top class musicians to reform the band: Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke and future Ozzy bass player Phil Soussan.
It was 1983, and of course, the sound & style in “Wildlife” is pure AOR filled with layers of vocal harmonies, keyboards / synths and big drums. Very similar sounding to the first FM album, both in terms of production and songwriting.
Honestly, we don’t know why “Wildlife” isn’t more popular or better known among AOR fans: it’s as good as the first 1986 FM album, and even better if we speak of keyboard flurries and pumping rhythms.
A MUST for fans of the genre.

WILDLIFE (pre Steve Overland’s FM) – Burning [Rock Candy Remastered & Reloaded] (2021)

Rock Candy Records just remastered & reloaded “Burning“, the debut album from WILDLIFE, a long lost Steve Overland’s FM related melodic rock / AOR obscurity resurrected for the modern age. Steve, his bro Chris Overland and drummer Pete Jupp were the core of the band, and would later become the core of FM.
Discovered by the late Adam Faith, WILDLIFE recorded ”Burning” (originally released in 1980) produced by Rupert Hine (Rush, Saga) a buoyant, focused debut.
The songs and the production are clearly influenced by the early ’80s AOR sound from America. The title track, ‘Too Close To The Heart’ and ‘If The Night’ are high caliber material. But despite its quality, it was tough for a UK band to make a mark in the genre. So, many people passed on it.

OVERLAND – Scandalous (2020)

Steve OVERLAND is a legend in his own lifetime. Is there anyone out there who is not familiar with his name? He has a history that goes way back into the late Seventies, his first major recording was with the band “Wildlife” in 1980. After the demise of “Wildlife” Steve went on to form the cult British melodic rock band “FM”, a band that released many great albums throughout the years and they are still going strong to this very day.
Scandalous” is Steve’s fifth solo album and what a belter it is too! This man can just seemingly continue to give us breathtakingly good songs with great song writing (let’s not forget the input of the talented Tommy Denander).
Steve Overland just gets better and let’s hope he gives us much more in years to come.
