SLIK TOXIK – Doin’ The Nasty [Bad Reputation remastered +3] (2022) HQ *0dayrox Exclusive*

Since the beginning of the ’90s, the waters were a bit rocky for the hard rock / metal world, especially in America. The landscape was changing and bands such as Warrant, Poison, and Skid Row who all at one time were selling out arenas and amphitheaters found themselves playing to 1/2 full venues and in some cases reduced to playing half full clubs.
It was also a bad time for new bands of the genre who were coming out. While this was true, it definitely didn’t mean that these acts weren’t any good. As a matter of fact, bands like Tora Tora, War Babies, and Babylon AD were doing this stuff as good if not better than many of their peers.
Of those acts, one band and their debut album rose above them all to really blow my mind. That band was Canada’s SLIK TOXIK and the album was ”Doin’ The Nasty”.
Now Bad Reputation Records is doing justice to that killer melodic hard rock album from 1992 reissuing a newly remastered version of Slik Toxik‘s debut full-length ”Doin’ The Nasty” with three bonus tracks. And believe me, if you like this genre, you need to listen to this CD.

CHEVY – The Taker [Rock Candy Remastered +3] *HQ*

Many of you asked to keep featuring Rock Candy Records releases to complete collections, so here’s rockers CHEVY only album 1980’s ”The Taker” that has been given the full-on bells and whistles of a remastered reissue by the Rock Candy crew with an interesting essay about the making of the album.
Evolving from an earlier band by the name of Cupid’s Inspiration, Chevy was the name they took on being “re-born” as a hard hitting hard rock act in the early mists of NWOBHM. They had the riffs, sure, though what set them apart from their luminaries was a more complex sounds that was tinged with a bit of Southern rock / blues (eg Point Blank, Outlaws or Blackfoot) and sometimes a sort of Wishbone Ash type vibe. Made for an interesting mixture and got them noticed.
If you were putting ”The Taker” neatly on a shelf of NWOBHM albums, it would be at the same “melodic” end as Praying Mantis & White Spirit, not at the “heavy end” with Iron Maiden and Saxon…

Now is being released tomorrow “Snakecharmer: Anthology“, a 4-CD box set collecting together the group two studio albums fully remastered, including the original Japan edition bonus tracks, as well as two killer, previously unreleased live shows.
Given the band’s pedigree, it was inevitable that the music would sound like good-time, classic melodic hard rock with a blues edge, their eponymous debut was released in 2013 by Frontiers. The response from fans and critics alike was rapturous, and the band toured to wide acclaim.

STORMHAMMER – Never Surrender : 30 Years Of Power (2022)

The upcoming “Never Surrender : 30 Years Of Power“, is some kind of a ‘best of’ from German metallers STORMHAMMER, but essentially a ‘re-launch’ for the band and a way to introduce them to many metalheads. STORMHAMMER already recorded seven albums since formed, the last from 2019, but soon after released Covid 19 hit the world and the band could only play one show supporting Doro.
After some line-up changes they have some new material already and are looking forward. “Never Surrender : 30 Years Of Power” takes some of best from past albums and gets a fresh remaster, and includes a brand new track featuring Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear) on guest vocals.
This is classic melodic metal with that traditional, unmistakable German sound, polished in arrangements & production with clean lead vocals / multi-part harmonies and elaborated instrumentation…

MAGNUM – Marauder [Japan expanded Limited Edition remastered +9] *HQ*

We all know and love British legends MAGNUM most successful albums, but their early efforts are very good LP’s as well. As requested, here’s ”Marauder”, the third album by the English band recorded live released in 1980. This LP replica Japanese expanded Limited Edition remastered CD includes 9 bonus tracks, including the rare four-track EP which preceded the album’s release in March 1980, called ”Live at the Marquee”, featuring material from the same show, plus other recordings from 1982.
Recorded on multi-track by former-Ten Years After bass player Leo Lyons, and mixed by talented Chris Tsangarides, ”Marauder” rocks. It was a successful album putting Magnum on the world map as it was very celebrated overseas…

LOUDNESS – Loudness 1992 [30th Anniversary Edition / 2022 Remix]

Year by year, legendary Japanese metal icons LOUDNESS continue commemorating the 30th Anniversary of their albums, and now it’s time for the self-titled “Loudness” from 1992. Instead from remastered, the band has chosen to give the album a fresh sound with a new 2022 remix, at charge of renowned Jacob Hansen. The results are stupendous.
By 1991, Loudness had terminated the recording contracts with US labels, and leader Akira Takasaki wanted a much more aggressive sound than the previous albums, oriented for the American market. Original bass player Masayoshi Yamashita was replaced with former X Japan bassist Taiji Sawada, and entered former EZO singer Masaki Yamada at the mic.
“Loudness 1992” is an edgy, melodic metal album plenty of razor riffs and metallic rhythm section, however, the sound production is clean & clear much in the vein of Metallica’s Black album or Skid Row’s Slave To The Grind.
This new 2022 remix is fantastic, giving the songs a much more crisp output…

The Lost US Jewels Vol.14 : WIZEKRAK – Through The Years 1989-1991 (2022)

And we have more from the highly collectible ‘Lost US Jewels’ series, here’s one of the newly released 2022, “The Lost US Jewels Vol.14 : WIZEKRAK – Through The Years 1989-1991“, the complete recordings from this highly infectious and ambitious outfit coming from Maryland, Baltimore.
Founded in the late ’80s, Wizekrak members shared a love for classic hard rock / sleazy hair metal acts and collectively created a musical brand they called “part Glam, part Sleaze and all Gleaze”! Armed with luxury vocal hooks, killer guitar parts and a thunderous live set, Wizekrak played almost every week and were a staple part of the local scene, and they arrived to LA to perform clubs like The Whiskey and Gazzarri’s.
Major labels like Atlantic and MCA were interested but nothing ever materialized. With a sound that was highly reminiscent of Poison, Tuff, Trixter, and Warrant at their most melodic, Wizekrak retained their own identity thanks to three highly polished and well received self-released cassettes, all of which have been included into this release (15 tracks) digitally remastered obtaining a very good sound quality.
Limited to 500 copies, the CD is almost sold out…

The Lost UK Jewels Vol. 14 ; SWEET SIN – Sweet Sin (2018) *HQ*

As part of the treasurable, collectors ‘Lost UK Jewels‘ series, here’s the not featured everywhere Vol.14, SWEET SIN‘s self-titled private LP ”Sweet Sin” from 1988, remastered and including 3 previously unreleased tracks as bonus.
If you’ve been following the “Lost UK Jewels” series from the very first volume then you’ll be all too aware that the UK in the Eighties, the North West in particular, was a hotbed of unsigned talent. A vast array of bands all vying for a record deal, with most falling at the first hurdle and only a select few getting their feet on the ladder.
SWEET SIN was a rare breed, undeterred by lack of label interest they took matters into their own hands and self-released their own album. Seven tracks of smouldering hard rock, that worshipped at the altar marked America, was what was on offer.
If truth be told a band from Preston had no right to sound this good, never mind look the part as well…

LATTER REIGN – Live For The Day [1991 / Digitally Remastered +2] (2022) *Exclusive*

Now we have this lost album remastered & restored plus two bonus tracks, with all new artwork and design.
The music into “Live For The Day” is hard-rocking catchy and brimming of Eighties melodic metal energy. No doubt, ‘80s melodic metal’ is an open-ended statement as it applies to any band having come out of the era – and such is the case with Latter Reign – but in reference to ”Live For The Day” also extends to AOR, melodic hard rock, glam, hair and pop metal…

MAGNUM – Magnum II [Japan expanded Limited Edition remastered +5] *HQ*

We all know and love British legends MAGNUM most successful albums, but their early efforts are very good LP’s as well. As requested, here’s ”Magnum II”, the 2nd studio album by the English band released in 1979 in its Japanese expanded Limited Edition remastered including 5 bonus tracks.
”Magnum II” followed on from the success of Magnum’s debut album, Kingdom Of Madness. The LP was produced by former Ten Years After bass player Leo Lyons, who had success with Phenomenon, Force It and No Heavy Petting for UFO.
As with their debut album Kingdom Of Madness, much of the material on ”Magnum II” was already written and had already been previewed in Magnum’s live set and were suitably “road tested”.
Musically “Magnum II” shows the band’s evolution. Its music is more mature, the melodic work is even more impressive and Tony Catlin’s guitar is widely highlighted. All this leads to a brilliant melodic hard rock with a progressive touch, the work on keyboards and piano being of a rare finesse. Finally Bob Catley confirms his vocal talent with a remarkable performance…

ATOMIC OPERA – For Madmen Only [Rock Candy Remastered]

As requested, here’s the Remastered & Reloaded version by Rock Candy Records of “For Madmen Only“, the amazing debut CD from Texan quartet ATOMIC OPERA. Laying down a sound that was thick and boisterous but embedded with subtlety and intelligent progressive arrangements, the band mixed these musical elements with lots of melodies and traditional hard rock styling.
Originally issued in 1994, “For Madmen Only” looked set to make quite a splash, a breath of fresh air in the dark, depressive grunge era. Its solid and muscular sound garnered the attention of traditional metal heads but also appealed to those whose tastes craved a more contemporary fix.
Combining the aforementioned musical elements, ATOMIC OPERA also characterized their music with neatly arranged and orchestrated vocal choruses (all members contribute), forging their own white hot sound in the fires of prog rock, metal and hard rock…

GUNFIRE DANCE – Witness To The Crime [Limited Edition remastered] (2022)

Hailing from Birmingham and operating in the very early Nineties, GUNFIRE DANCE is the symbol of a British scene which was in its time full of emerging talent but that couldn’t get the recognition it deserved because of the lack of support.
Their music combined the swagger of the New York Dolls, the attitude of The Lords Of New Church, and the catchiness of Quireboys – they were too raw for the melodic rock / hair metal market and not enough heavy for metalheads. This lack of consideration that often leads to the “cult band” status as time goes on… this is what we have here on “Witness To The Crime“.
This was the title of the independent cassette GUNFIRE DANCE put out back in the day, these songs plus others never officially released have been remastered and finally available onto this CD…
