BLACK BELT THEATRE – Power Petting (2019)

BLACK BELT THEATRE is, proudly, a very mid-western American band. And even more proudly, they play a brand of classic rock n’ roll so missing in current radio. Formed in 2013 by experienced musicians, Black Belt Theatre are presenting their third full length album titled “Power Petting”, a very enjoyable hard-edged collection of songs steeped in the melodic spirit of...

TOOL – Fear Inoculum (2019)

It’s been a long wait for the new TOOL album – and it’s been worth it. On “Fear Inoculum”, Tool’s first album in 13 years to be released August 30, the band remain defiantly contrary to the auto-tuned, digitally-quantized world in which we now live. They continue to blur the lines between art, psychedelia, alt metal, and prog rock with...

DOMINOE – Keep In Touch +9 [Remastered Reissue 2019]

One of the best Melodic Rock / poppy AOR bands coming out from Germany during the Eighties is without a doubt DOMINOE, founded by composer, musician and skilled producer Robert Papst. From the beginning, the idea for this outfit was to combine the catchiness and muscle of the melodic rock genre with fluffy, commercial rock&pop sounds. Originally issued in 1988,...

With only one song on iTunes and no publicity backup, Swedish Melodic Rock band ROCKETT LOVE received a great deal of radio time (and was featured in this blog’s Advanced Releases series). The Moody Blues singer / bassist JOHN LODGE is ready to release soon a new solo album to coincide with the launch of The Royal Affair Tour, a new North American trek that also features Yes, Asia and Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy. Titled “B Yond : The Very Best Of”, the CD features three new recordings, two new remixes, and other tracks chosen by John as he revisits the very best of his career with the Moody Blues and his solo work, all freshly remastered.
While the cover artwork designed by legendary Roger Dean in his classic style brings to mind Yes, the music packed here is more driving, similar to Asia if you will.

ASTRALIUM – Land Of Eternal Dreams (2019)

“Land Of Eternal Dreams” is the title of ASTRALIUM, a female fronted metal band based out of Italy, and according to the press release delivering a strong mix of Symphonic Metal with Power, Heavy and Progressive Metal influences. I was expecting more of the same in this genre, but resulted greatly surprised by the quality of this band and their melodic, catchy sound, different to bands of this ilk.

IVORY TOWER – Stronger (2019)

“Stronger” marks the 5th release of IVORY TOWER, a band that somehow eluded me until now. But this new album title speaks for itself: the guys are back stronger than ever, and present powerful, playful, melodic and heavy collection of songs plenty of sophisticated vocal melodies and kick-ass guitar riffs. Think of Metallica’s Black album; this is heavy but not metallic, and not hard rock but plenty of groove. Join both, add a pinch of classic ’80s and clever arrangements, and you have a very good hard ‘n heavy album.
Killer

This is a stupendous performance featuring the great songs that have established themselves as a top melodic hard rockin’ act over the years. Production is pretty raw,...
